When it comes to switching or upgrading to LED parking lot lights, there are undoubtedly a few questions you asked before making the commitment. To help you out in your decision, here are answers to the most commonly asked questions about LED parking lot lights.

Industrial LED Lighting – Does LED light provide more/better light?

The design of industrial LED lighting is much more efficient and they are much more effective. They can produce anywhere from 35% to 75% more energy than the usual lighting fixtures such as incandescent lights, fluorescent lights, halogen lights, and metal halide lights. Industrial LED lighting also require less maintenance, which can save you more money in the long run.

2. What are the parts of an LED light?

LED is made of three parts, the LED chip, the driver, and the heat sink. The LED chip is what produces the light, the driver converts AC to DC, and the heat sink makes everything cool down. The heat does not have any effect on the space illuminated, but it makes a difference in the longevity and safety of the parts of the LED light.

3. How do LED’s work?

The LED light chip takes the power from the driver and creates light through the chip. The heat sink takes the heat from the LED and the drivers and cools it down. The chip, also called a diode, is where LED takes its name. LED means light-emitting diode.

4. Do I need to change my fixture to convert to LEDs?

That would depend on the kinds of light fixtures that you have. Most modern light fixtures can be retrofitted to be compatible with LED lights, but there are older light fixtures that have to be completely replaced for LED lighting. While it could cost a bit to convert your parking lot for LED lights, it will mean a lot of savings in the long run.

5. How safe are LED lights?

LED lights are safer than most other lamps because they are fitted with their own heat sinks. This means that they are cooler and safer to handle. When it comes to using LED lights for parking spaces, they are even safer because they are usually placed on high fixtures above the ground. But when it comes to replacing them or making repairs, LED lights are much safer to handle.

6. Are LEDs safe for plants?

LED lights are in fact good for plant life. There are even LED hydroponic lamps that are used to stimulate growth in plants by providing them with the right light wavelength. This light is also much more efficient and easier to control, making it the better light to use when growing plants with artificial light.

7. Are LED lights bad for your eyes?

Just like any other lamp, if you look or stare at a lamp for a long time, there could be damage to your eyes. But they are safer to use when lighting up a room or a space. LED lights cannot cause any particular harm to your eyes. In fact, they are safer than many other kinds of lamps because they can produce more light with less heat. LED lights can also produce light from either end of the color spectrum, and you can adjust how warm or cool you want your light color to be.

8. What is the most common reason that LED lights to fail?

Like most light fixtures and lamps, heat is the main cause of failures. Heat affects electronics and ages its components. Over a long period of time, this can cause failure and even damage to the lamp. The more heat a lamp has, the shorter the lifespan of that lamp. But LED lamps and lights create the least amount of heat among all lamp fixtures, mainly because of heat sinks installed in every bulb. This is why they last the longest among all kinds of lamps.

9. Can you dim LED’s

LED lights can be dimmable, but they can only be controlled if they are already dimmable LED bulbs. Just like most other lamps, you cannot dim a standard LED lamp bulb. LED lights can also only be dimmed specifically by LED dimming switch, meaning dimmer switches for halogen or incandescent lights will not be compatible with LED dimming lights.

10. Are LED lights really more affordable?

LED lights are much more affordable to run because they consume less energy and require less maintenance. This is a significant cost especially if you are using them to illuminate a large area such as parking lot lights. LED parking lot lights can save you much more money in the longer because LED lights run safer, more efficiently, and for a longer period of time. While installation costs can be substantial, you will save a lot more in overall energy savings and maintenance costs.
